piano keys

My father recently gave me a collection of old piano keys that he'd found at a local flea market. "I thought you could do scrimshaw on them," he said. I tossed them aside, however, wondering when I'd ever get around to learning how to scrimshaw like a pro. And then I happened upon Black Sheep & Prodigal Sons' Theft of Light series, which draws inspiration from "Navajo Shamanic traditions and the Tsimshian legends accounting for the origins of daylight." I think these pieces are stunning - all raven skin and ivory stars (read the legend) - and reason for my newfound admiration of piano keys (scrimshawed or not).
